In all of the chaos of getting around in a busy airport, your main objective after your plane lands is to get your checked hardside luggage as soon as possible. But the baggage carousel does not make this step easier for you. Everyone's baggage is moving around on the carousel, with more being added as you stand there. A lot of the hardside luggage for sale looks similar, and there can be little difference in outward styles, colors, or shapes. And somewhere in the confusion, you need to find your bag, not take someone else's by mistake, hope someone did not take yours by mistake, and hope that your luggage didn't get lost in the process. Factor in that you're probably already tired and stressed from traveling. It's no wonder claiming your baggage is such a hassle.
So, before traveling with checked hardside luggage, follow one or more of these tips. They will make your life easier by helping you to find your luggage easier on the baggage carousel. They will also make it harder for someone else to take your bag by mistake.
Utilize Decals Or Stickers -- If changing the appearance of your luggage some does not bother you, then look for some durable, highly adhesive, large stickers or decals that won't fall off easily. Put them on your luggage to make your bag look more unique. Remember, the easier they are to see, the better, especially when trying to find your luggage.
Tie Something Noticeable Around The Handle -- One of the quickest and easiest ways to make your luggage easier to find is to tie a brightly colored ribbon or strip of cloth to the handle. When I flew for the first time, this was one of the pieces of advice given to me. Make it a highly distinctive, vivid pattern instead of an ordinary neon ribbon for best results.
Utilize Accessories -- If you want something that is more fashion-conscious than a bright strip of cloth around the handle and less permanent than a bunch of stickers, then use some unique luggage accessories instead. A number of luggage tags and straps are available in fun colors and interesting patterns. There are even some brightly colored luggage locks available. Just make sure that, whatever you use, it is TSA compliant so they can inspect your bag if necessary.
Invest In A Different Design Or Color -- If you are looking for new luggage, remember to think about how easy it is to find in a pile. Instead of choosing luggage in a very plain navy or black, choose different colors such as hot pink or bright blue. Or choose a fun pattern, such as floral, animal print, or even polka dot. Having hardside luggage that looks different than most automatically makes it much easier to find on the baggage carousel.
